Did you know: Juneau (Alaska) is accessible only by sea or air!  Cars and trucks are transported to/from Alaska's capital by barge or ferry.

Coffee Around the World

One way to experience international coffees of the world is to visit a premium cafe in Vancouver, Seattle, or Portland - where they truly take their coffee very, very seriously.  Another way, of course, is to actually visit other countries and make a point of experiencing how they prepare and serve their coffees.

For a funny and informative guide on this subject, visit MSN.com's "A caffeine addict's guide to the world."  Here' you'll be advised tips on drinking the stuff.  For example, in Italy it suggests consuming your espresso in a single gulp while standing at the bar, because if you choose a table you'll pay up to 4 times the price!  You'll also read tips on where to consume.  Example, in Ethiopia, try Habesha Restaurant in Addis Ababa to experience authentic rural coffee-serving rituals.  This takes place in a thatched hut outside the idning area.  And you'll read how these countries prefer to drink their brew.  Example: Mexican's love their all-nighters, drinking a brew from an earthenware pot, sweetend with brown sugar and spiced with cinnamon sticks.  Or Saudi's prefer theres infused with cardamom.  Turks love to drink their thick stuff along with chewy Turkish delight candy.

In Hong Kong, they like to mix coffee and tea (with milk) together!  The Finn's add chunks of cow- or reindeer-milk cheese curd.  And we all know how the Irish like their coffee.

Sadly Canada, as always, is over-looked, probably considered too boring or too much like Americans to warrant mention.  But, if we were cited, I'm sure that Vancouver would be singled out for our strange fetish for "latte art" - patterns of leafs and hearts and animals in our steamed milk.  Only in Canada, you say?
