Days 2-4

Explore the Sea of Cortez and discover abundant marine wildlife.

We spend the next three days exploring areas in the Sea of Cortez. We hope to snorkel in crystal clear waters with an amazing diversity of undersea life, kayak through mangrove lagoons, over coral reefs and in quiet bays, and go ashore to explore various islands. Some of the islands we hope to include are Isla Espiritu Santos, Isla San Francisco, Isla San Jose, Isla Partida and Isla Santa Cruz.

The Sea of Cortez is known for its abundance of marine life. We hope to observe and interact with some of the largest whales on earth, marvel at the antics of hundreds of dolphins as they escort us on our journey, explore a sea lion habitat where males jostle for dominance and females nurture their young, and discover an array of birdlife that can be found wading, nesting and feeding along the shoreline.

On this departure we will be joined by world renowned Whale shark scientist, Dr. Deni Ramirez Macias, who grew up with a passion for Whale sharks and the goal of protecting these amazing giants. On this expedition we will be offering you the chance to assist in the collection of data on Whale sharks in the area. The research consists of photo identification, gender identification, noting scars, measuring dorsal length and overall length, and, when applicable, tagging the Whale sharks.

On our final day we arrive back in La Paz in the early evening and anchor here for the night.
