Moorea

Located a mere 12 miles (19 kilometers) west of Tahiti in the French owned territory known as French Polynesia, spectacular Moorea is within plain view of downtown Papeete and the whole north and western side of the island of Tahiti.

In Tahitian, the name Moorea literally means yellow lizard. There are other names of which this island is referred to such as York Island and Aimeho. One of the most fascinating facts about this island is that the entire area resembles the shape of a heart.

Moorea - Pronounced  mow-oh- ray-ah
